The Hillsborough County & City of Tampa Employees Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund came into existence in 1988 when a group of Hillsborough County employees decided to create a scholarship program for Hillsborough County students. Employees from the City of Tampa joined the organization in 1992. Named in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the scholarship is supported by payroll deductions of the employees, and tax deductible contributions from groups, businesses and individuals.
Since the program’s inception, over $600,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving Hillsborough County students who demonstrate their commitment to community service, academic achievement and a thorough understanding of the time honored ideals of Dr. King. Care is taken to ensure the awardee population is representative of the wonderful diversity within Hillsborough County schools and awards are presented in a ceremony each year honoring the students and the parents or guardians who have supported them. Monies are dispersed upon sufficient proof of enrollment in the student’s college of choice.
Please join us by supporting this vital program financially, volunteering with the scholarship committee, and/ or assisting some deserving student in their academic pursuits and application requirements for the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Scholarship.
All contributions are tax deductible.
